We always love to capitalize on great weather because you never know when the weather is going to turn. Probably our favorite way to enjoy beautiful weather is to go on a hike. There are so many different places to hike, each with its own unique charm.One of the places that we love to hike is The Grove in Glenview. The Grove has some nice, easy to walk hiking trails. Also, The Grove has a little historic village. The village features a longhouse, a log cabin, a schoolhouse, a blacksmith shop, the Kennicott House and the Redfield Estate. Unfortunately, these structures are not open often. (Something my daughter always complains about because she loves to explore historic buildings!)
In addition, The Grove has an Interpretive Center that is a must stop during any visit. They have a number of resident animals including my daughter's favorites--the turtles and Cora the skunk. My daughter can watch the turtles frolick for quite some time. On our lsat visit, she had an opportunity to pet Cora, a skunk that The Grove rescued from a nearby school. Cora is amazing gentle and loves to play with toys!
The Interpretive Center also has a craft for kids and a wealth of exhibits to explore. We usually spend about 30 minutes or so in the Interpretive Center each time we visit The Grove.
The grounds are open M-F: 8 am-4:30 pm and Sat.-Sun.: 9 am-5 pm. They are closed New Year's Day, July 4, and Christmas. The buildings are opened seasonally and during special events, so check the website for more information. The Grove is located at 1421 Milwaukee Ave in Glenview.
