A proper tea at English tea room in Covington, Louisiana

**Disclosure: No compensation was received for this post. All opinions are 100% my own.

When we travel, we thrive on going down the path less traveled. We often find ourselves eschewing some of the more well known attractions or making more token visits to them in favor of spending more time just wandering around turning over stones. On our trip to New Orleans, I happened to find a brochure for the English Tea Room while at a Louisiana rest area combing for information on plantations. I picked it up thoroughly intrigued. However, I was not sure if we would have time for a visit. As we were deciding what to do on our final day in Louisiana, none of us could resist a visit to the English Tea Room!

The tea room is a vision for anyone who has dreamed of having a tea party. From the elegant decor to whimsical nods to England to the fancy tea cups, we were quickly transported from the rush of the day and were able to sit back and enjoy each other's company.

Tea at the English Tearoom

When we settled in to look over the menu, we quickly noted that the English Tea Room had many choices. Our first mission was to choose our tea. One glance at the tea menu and we noted that the tea room has the largest selection of tea we have ever seen--truly something for everyone! We each chose our own tea. A green for me, a white for the hubby and raspberry for the wee one. While my daughter does enjoy tea from time to time, she fell head over heels in love when we each received our tea in our own individual pots. In fact, she has asked for her own pot for Christmas. Santa will oblige!

We chose our meals from the lunch menu sporting salads, sandwiches, soup, quiche, shepherd's pie and more! For a true tea party, you can also choose from several high tea options or tea and baked goods selections. I had the Chopped Salad and my daughter and husband shared the Ploughman's Lunch which included a selection of British cheeses. Each meal was a healthy portion--truly appreciated by these hungry travelers!

Jan Lantrip, owner of the English Tea Room, is a lovely soul. We talked for quite some time and I feel like I have known her for years! I loved that she conversed with every patron, whether they were a new friend or old. Her passion for her dream was evident. Her knowledge of tea is amazing and she has such an affinity that she cooks with tea! We tried two tea infused cake options for dessert---amazing! Just amazing!

While at the tea room, we received a sneak peek of the Alice in Wonderland Tea Cottage where kids {and adults} can have magical tea parties! The tea room also has a quaint courtyard where you can have your tea. There is a peaceful space for every tea lover!

To me, tea is very much about socializing yet relaxing at the same time. It is something that is special but does not need to be pretentious. Tea can be whimsical and fun or more tranquil and pensive. The English Tea Room serves all of this up with delight! If only Louisiana were closer! Fortunately, the tea room has an online shop to peruse.....
